Living room at the Claiborne House bed and breakfast

The Claibourne House was built in 1896 by Georgetown doctor Dr. Foster for his wife and eight children. The five Foster boys shared Room #3, Amaryllis Room. The eldest daughter had her own room, Room #1, Periwinkle Room, while the younger two girls shared what is now Room #2, European Room. Dr. and Mrs. Foster enjoyed the ground floor master suite, which is now Room #4, Caladium Room.

Many generations of Fosters lived in this elegant home in the heart of Georgetown. In fact,  the home didn’t change hands until the 1950s. Current owner Clare Easley purchased the home in 1985. By that time, it had been divided into a duplex and updated in a way that was not sympathetic with the history of the home. With the help of skilled craftsmen and a talented decorator, Clare renovated the home in the mid 1980s. Clare had a strong feeling that the house should be pink, although she doesn’t like the color pink. It just felt right to her. So she found a subtle shade of salmon that pleases the eye and that felt right to her. Some years later, a descendant of Dr. Foster visited the home and told Clare that the original color of the home was, indeed, salmon. Today, the gracious home welcomes guests with comfortable antique furniture, art, and books as its decor. The broad wraparound front porch is ideal for early morning coffee, weather permitting, and late afternoon wine.
